Breaking: Taraba State Government Inaugurates Committee To Investigate Taraba Television Station
The Taraba State government has inaugurated a committee to investigate the activities of the Taraba Television Station, following the recent suspension of the station’s general manager by Governor Agbu Kefas.
The committee was inaugurated by the Taraba State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa, who emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the terms of reference provided. He cautioned the committee members against engaging in witch-hunting, urging them to conduct their investigation with fairness and impartiality.
The committee’s terms of reference include a thorough examination of the station’s revenue inflows from advertisements and other income sources. Additionally, the committee is tasked with assessing the sustainability strategies employed by the station to reduce debt and increase savings.
One of the critical issues for investigation is why the station has been off the air for an extended period. The committee will also look into allegations of insubordination and non-compliance with directives to use part of the monthly overhead for debt reduction.
Furthermore, the committee has been directed to recommend whether the station should pursue full or partial commercialisation to achieve self-sustainability.
The five-member committee, headed by Justice Hamidu Audu, has begun its work and, through its secretary, Liberty Andrew, has called for the submission of memoranda from the public, station staff, and other professional unions.
This development marks a significant step in addressing the operational challenges faced by the Taraba Television Station and determining its future direction.
