Prior to the bill’s passage, the Senate endorsed the report of the harmonized sessions of both chambers on the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, as presented by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee (APC, Ogun West).
The bill swiftly progressed through readings in both the upper and lower chambers, with lawmakers emphasizing its importance for the nation.
Tinubu had previously written to the National Assembly, seeking approval for the sum of N2,176,791,286,033 as the 2023 supplementary budget to address matters such as labour wage adjustments, security, and more.
The President also submitted the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) & Fiscal Strategy Paper to both chambers of the National Assembly. Recently, the Senate approved N819 billion, which includes a N500 billion palliative package.
Tinubu stressed that the supplementary bill was essential to implement additional palliative measures, including wage adjustments. The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by the President, approved the 2023 supplementary budget of N2.1 trillion on Monday.
