The contracts, totaling N97.9 million, were reportedly awarded to Architekon Nigeria Ltd, a company in which both Emefiele’s wife and brother-in-law serve as directors. The contracts were for the supply of office furniture to the CBN.

Omowera stated that Emefiele, as the head of the CBN at the time, held ultimate responsibility for approving these contracts, despite the involvement of ten individuals in the procurement process.

However, when questioned by the defendant’s counsel, Omowera clarified that their investigation focused solely on Emefiele’s relatives and associates, not directly implicating Emefiele himself.

Additionally, Omowera highlighted discrepancies in the business dealings of Emefiele’s wife and brother-in-law. He noted that Margaret Omoyile, Emefiele’s wife, used her maiden name to register Architekon Nigeria Ltd, while Sahadatu Ramalan Yaro, a director of April 1616 Investment Limited, was appointed shortly after joining the CBN.

The EFCC witness also disclosed that April 1616 Investment Limited, associated with Emefiele’s brother-in-law, benefited from CBN contracts for the procurement of Toyota-branded vehicles.

These revelations underscore the allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest surrounding Emefiele’s tenure at the CBN, as the EFCC continues its investigation into the matter.
