National Sports Commission (NSC), on Friday in Abuja.
The decision followed a comprehensive evaluation during a top management meeting at the NSC, where Enugu was selected as the leading contender from a competitive bidding process. The commission is confident that Enugu, known as the coal city, is well-equipped to deliver a world-class event.
The National Sports Festival (NSF), a biennial multi-sport competition, brings together thousands of athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, promoting sportsmanship, national unity, and excellence in athletics.
Before Enugu’s turn, the 22nd edition of the festival will be held in Ogun State in January 2025, with organizers committed to delivering an outstanding event.
Olopade emphasized that selecting Enugu aligns with international best practices and provides enough time for the state to make the necessary preparations. This decision not only enhances the festival’s corporate image but also ensures a smooth experience for all participants.
This event will be historic, marking the first time Enugu will host the festival since its inception in 1973. Olopade expressed optimism that the 23rd edition will continue the tradition of excellence and showcase Nigeria’s exceptional sports talent.
