Former PDP Leader Abubakar Mustapha Defects To APC
Abubakar Mustapha, a former National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
Mustapha, who also served as the Head of the Civil Service in Kaduna, formally resigned through a letter addressed to the chairman of Gubuchi ward in Makarfi Local Government Area, dated July 15, 2024. In his resignation, Mustapha cited personal reasons for his departure and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had while serving in various capacities within the PDP.
Joining Mustapha in his departure from the PDP are Rabi’u Bako, a five-time Commissioner in Kaduna State during the PDP administration, and Suleiman Sambo, a former Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna State civil service.
Bako’s resignation letter, addressed to the PDP chairman of Shaba ward in Kaduna North Local Government, was dated July 19, 2024. Bako cited dissatisfaction with the state chapter’s leadership, accusing them of lacking focus and integrity, which he believes has led to the party’s current unfortunate state.
Sambo’s resignation letter, dated July 15, 2024, addressed to the PDP chairman of Gubuchi ward, similarly cited personal reasons for his exit from the party.
The defections reflect ongoing shifts within the political landscape of Kaduna State and signal potential realignments within the PDP and APC.
