The family of Simon Igba, a Nigeria Police Force officer, bore the brunt of this worsening security situation. Simon’s wife, Christiana Igba, and mother-in-law, Maria Agbo, fell victim to assailants in a tragic turn of events about two weeks ago.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred at the family’s residence near the Mopol Barracks in Dei-Dei, where armed men invaded, leaving Simon Igba severely injured and in a coma. Christiana, who had recently given birth after a decade of marriage, and her mother were kidnapped and later found murdered at an undisclosed location.

A neighbor, Adejor Jacob, shared the distressing details, recounting that the abductors had demanded a ransom of N90 million before ruthlessly killing the victims. The late Christiana had recently celebrated the birth of her child after struggling with barrenness for more than ten years.

“The kidnappers earlier asked the husband to pay N90 million ransom as the only condition to release his wife and his mother-in-law. A day before they were killed, the kidnappers contacted the husband and they both negotiated and settled for N10 million,” Adejor Jacob revealed.

The tragic incident, coupled with an apparent rise in kidnappings and killings in the Dei-Dei area since January, has instilled fear among residents.

Many are reportedly relocating due to heightened security concerns, highlighting the underreporting of such incidents and the urgent need for more robust security measures to safeguard the lives of Abuja’s residents.
