engaging in the illegal trade of narcotics, and associating with women within their vehicles.
The Hisbah command agents carried out the arrests across various locations in Kano as part of their recent initiative, “Operation Kau da Badala” (Operation Fight against Immorality), aimed at eradicating vices like drug addiction, prostitution, and the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.
The Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Mujahid Aminuddeen, addressed the tricycle riders during a session on Friday, urging them to refrain from activities that could tarnish the image of the region’s religion and culture.
The accused riders face allegations ranging from drug peddling and transporting women to locations for immoral acts to riding in scanty clothing, mingling unrelated men and women, and displaying offensive posters on their vehicles.
“As Muslims, we will not accept this behavior and activities of the tricycle riders. That is why we brought you here to admonish you on the negative implications of these acts on our religion and culture as people of Kano,” stated Sheikh Aminuddeen during the address.
The tricycle riders were reportedly taken to the Hisbah Board’s offices, where they underwent reprimands from officials before being released.
The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by Hisbah to enforce moral standards and cultural norms in Kano, with a focus on curtailing practices deemed contrary to Islamic principles.
