The oath-taking ceremony, conducted by Chief Justice Peter Shivute in Windhoek, marks the beginning of a new era for the country.

Born on August 15, 1941, Mbumba, a member of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), served as Vice President since 2018. With an extensive political background, he has held key positions in various Namibian ministries, showcasing his dedication to public service.

The transition of power follows the passing of former President Geingob, who succumbed to cancer at Lady Pohamba Hospital on February 4, 2024. Mbumba, who announced the President’s demise, expressed deep sorrow, highlighting Geingob’s pivotal role as the nation’s pillar and the chief architect of its constitution.

Despite the best efforts of the medical team, President Geingob’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of Namibians. Mbumba shared that the late President’s wife, Monica Geingos, and their children were by his side during his final moments.

Namibia now looks to President Mbumba to lead the nation forward, steering it through these challenging times and building on the legacy left by his predecessor.
