House of Reps Launches New Panel to Investigate Economic Sabotage in Oil Sector

Significant move, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has established a new seven-member panel to collaborate with the Senate in a thorough investigation into alleged economic sabotage in Nigeria’s petroleum and gas industry. This decision follows the recent dissolution of a similar ad-hoc committee previously set up by the House.

According to a statement from House Spokesperson Akin Rotimi Jr., the newly appointed panel will be led by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere as co-chairman. The committee members include Hon. Iduma Ighariwey, Hon. Gboyega N. Isiaka, Hon. Sada Soli, Fatima Talba, Hon. Tunji Raheem, and Hon. Patrick Umoh, PhD.

The statement emphasized that the urgent nature of the issue requires a coordinated effort between the Senate and the House of Representatives. “The new structure is designed to foster synergy, ensure a comprehensive approach to the investigation, and facilitate efficient administrative coordination,” it noted.

This newly formed panel aims to address the critical concerns in Nigeria’s oil sector with a focused and unified strategy, promising a more streamlined and effective investigation into the economic sabotage allegations.
