Just In: Bauchi Police Arrest 2,077-Suspects In One Year (Details)

The Bauchi State Police Command announced the arrest of 2,077 suspects in connection with various crimes committed within and outside the state between July 2023 and July 2024. This achievement was reported by Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement on Saturday.

The arrests were made under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, who assumed duty on July 6, 2023. Wakil noted that Bauchi State faces significant security challenges, including kidnapping, armed banditry, cattle rustling, thuggery, rape, and other violent crimes.

The state has several crime hotspots, including Lame Burra Forest in Ningi Local Government Area, Balmo Forest in Ganjuwa LGA, Yuda and Mundu Forest in Toro LGA, and Dajin Madam and Yankari Forest in Alkaleri LGA. These areas provide cover for criminal elements to perpetrate heinous crimes.

The Bauchi State Command has implemented proactive measures, fostering robust synergy with relevant stakeholders, other security and quasi-security agencies, vigilante groups, religious/traditional institutions, and youth groups. This strategy has significantly aided the fight against all forms of crimes and criminality in Bauchi State. The Command’s community policing engagements and other crime-fighting strategies have led to remarkable achievements.

Wakil stated, “The Command has recorded a total of 1,148 cases and arrested 2,077 suspects in connection to various crimes committed within and outside the State.”

Armed Robbery: 100 cases, 212 suspects arrested
Culpable Homicide: 136 cases, 271 suspects arrested
Attempted Suicide: 1 case, 1 suspect arrested
Grievous Hurt/Wounding: 18 cases, 32 suspects arrested
Assault: 2 cases, 2 suspects arrested
Rape/Indecent Assault: 126 cases, 157 suspects arrested
Kidnapping: 67 cases, 159 suspects arrested
Unnatural Offence: 9 cases, 11 suspects arrested
Theft/Stealing: 25 cases, 48 suspects arrested
False Pretense/Cheating: 163 cases, 189 suspects arrested
