In a recent development, the party’s Suspended Treasurer revealed startling details, alleging that Abure exploited the LP’s reputation to solicit campaign funds abroad without proper authorization.

The revelations come amidst heightened tensions within the LP, triggered by Abure’s recent arrest in Benin City, Edo State, on charges of forgery and illegal possession of firearms. These allegations, stemming from a petition by concerned party members, cast a shadow over Abure’s leadership tenure.

The petition accuses Abure of forging the signature of the party’s National Secretary to unlawfully withdraw a staggering N1.3 billion from the LP’s coffers. Furthermore, it alleges that Abure resorted to threats against dissenting voices, intensifying concerns about his conduct and intentions.

In response, Abure vehemently refutes the allegations, asserting his innocence and citing documentary evidence in his defense. He contends that the legal disputes surrounding these claims are currently subject to judicial review.

Yunusa Tanko, the LP’s Director of Media and Publicity, shed light on the party’s stance during an interview with ARISE TV, affirming the initiation of an internal probe by the National Working Committee (NWC). This investigation aims to afford Abure an opportunity to address the accusations levied against him, with plans for a forensic examination to validate the contested signature.

Tanko also voiced suspicions of ulterior motives behind the petition, suggesting external influences seeking to undermine the LP’s stability and reputation, particularly in the run-up to the pivotal gubernatorial primary election in Edo State.

While the investigation progresses, the NWC remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing that any substantiated wrongdoing by Abure will result in severe disciplinary action, including possible expulsion from the party.
