Ajibola, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilesa branch, has taken legal action by dragging the National and all 36 State Houses of Assembly to court over their failure to respond to his letter urging the initiation of legislation for capital punishment for treasury looters.

In his lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Ajibola emphasized the urgent need for stringent measures to combat corruption, citing the staggering amounts of public funds misappropriated over the years, which have pushed Nigeria to the brink of collapse.

He argued that the prevailing leniency towards corrupt officials, evidenced by plea bargaining and political forgiveness, has only emboldened them to continue looting public coffers without fear of significant repercussions.

Drawing parallels with China’s anti-corruption laws, which incorporate capital punishment and have contributed to its economic success, Ajibola urged Nigerian authorities to adopt similarly stringent measures to deter corruption effectively.

Citing constitutional provisions, Ajibola sought the court’s intervention to compel legislative action towards enacting laws that impose the death penalty on corrupt public officials, emphasizing the critical role of every institution and individual in revitalizing Nigeria’s democracy and curbing corruption.
