Nigerian Police FPRO Responds to Photo of Abandoned Van in Benue, Sparks Nationwide Debate
Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, recently responded to a concerning photo of a police van that has reportedly been abandoned for over a year in Benue State. The image, shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows the police vehicle parked at a local station with a stone placed in front of its tire.
The photo was initially posted by a Twitter user who expressed frustration about the lack of mobility for emergency response. The user wrote, “@Princemoye1, this is the Hilux of our police in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. Without mobility, there’s no way to respond to emergencies or immediate actions. This Hilux has been parked for more than a year now, sir. Please, we need the FHQ intervention.”
Prince Adejobi’s reaction to the tweet was prompt. He acknowledged the situation by stating, “You can see that this Hilux is new enough to be functional and operational.” His comment has since ignited a wave of reactions from Nigerians and social media users.
The response has drawn mixed feedback. Some social media users are skeptical, questioning whether the police will take any meaningful action. Others speculate that the van might have developed mechanical issues that have not been addressed.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the operational readiness of police equipment in Nigeria and raises questions about the maintenance and management of resources within the force. The debate continues as Nigerians weigh in on the implications of this situation for emergency services and public safety.
