Obi Unfazed by Jonathan’s 2027 Ambitions; Opposition Blasts Ministers’ Performance
Call for Jonathan’s Return Doesn’t Bother Obi, Says LP
Peter Obi’s camp has brushed off concerns about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential 2027 presidential bid, despite the PDP’s recent endorsement of Jonathan’s return. In the wake of growing speculation about dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration among Northern elites, Yunusa Tanko, spokesman for the Labour Party, emphasized that the party remains focused on current issues and strengthening its own platform. Tanko dismissed the discussions surrounding Jonathan’s potential candidacy as premature and irrelevant to the Labour Party’s immediate goals.
Opposition Rates Ministers Low
In a recent critique, opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of President Tinubu’s ministers after one year in office. They labeled the administration’s efforts a “monumental failure,” arguing that Tinubu’s policies have exacerbated Nigeria’s economic woes, increased poverty, and worsened infrastructure decay. Although some ministers have highlighted their achievements, the opposition accused the government of lacking empathy and failing to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians. They have called for a cabinet reshuffle but are skeptical about its potential effectiveness.
