Paul Ibe Condemns Disrespectful ‘Boy’ Remark by Bode George: A Grievous Affront to Maturity

Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has expressed strong discontent with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Chief Bode George for referring to him as a “boy.” The controversy ignited following George’s critical remarks about Atiku’s presidential candidacy during an interview on Arise TV.

Chief Bode George argued that an Atiku presidency in 2023 would have led to significant challenges for Nigeria, including political instability. In defense of Atiku, Ibe asserted that the former vice president’s administration would have ushered in substantial progress and development.

In a subsequent appearance on TVC News, George escalated the tension by dismissing Ibe, stating, “I don’t know who Paul Ibe is.” He further suggested that Ibe should seek divine forgiveness for implying that George’s reluctance to support Atiku in the 2023 elections stemmed from ethnic bias. “I have no iota of tribalism in my blood,” George emphasized.

However, it was George’s dismissive reference to Ibe as a “boy” that sparked the strongest reaction. “I don’t know who the Ibe boy is that he is talking trash, rubbish,” George said during the interview.

In response, Ibe took to Facebook to address the comments. He revealed that his son informed him about George’s derogatory remarks. Ibe humorously suggested that George might have been referring to his son, who shares the same name, but made it clear that the term “boy” is deeply offensive when used to address an adult.

“My dear son recently conveyed to me that he overheard Chief Bode George declaring that he is unfamiliar with Paul Ibe. Furthermore, he relayed that the pardoned ex-convict referred to me as a ‘boy’. I explained to my son that it is plausible that Chief Bode George—by the way, I declined a chieftaincy title due to its phonetic resemblance to ‘thief’—might have been alluding to him, my son, who also bears the name Paul Ibe.”

Ibe concluded his statement by emphasizing that while he forgives George for his remarks, addressing a mature man as a “boy” is a severe insult, regardless of the context or the age difference. “I assured him that I pardon the Chief’s remarks; nevertheless, addressing a mature man as a ‘boy,’ regardless of age, constitutes a grievous affront,” Ibe stated.

This exchange highlights the ongoing tension between key figures within the PDP, as the party navigates the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election and the varying opinions on leadership and representation within the party.
