President Tinubu Joins World Leaders At G-20 To Tackle Hunger And Poverty (Video)
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a strong impression at the G-20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as world leaders convene to tackle pressing global challenges. Accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, the Nigerian President received a warm welcome from the host, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil.
This year’s summit has brought together influential leaders such as U.S. President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and French President Emmanuel Macron, with discussions focused on combating global hunger and poverty while promoting sustainable development.
At the opening session, the G-20 leaders launched a historic initiative—the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. This alliance, endorsed by all member nations, is set to implement impactful solutions from 2025 to 2030 to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty worldwide.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva, a leading voice in this initiative, emphasized that hunger and poverty stem not from resource scarcity but from systemic inequality. He highlighted that while the world produces nearly six billion tons of food annually, over 733 million people still suffer from hunger.
The alliance has already secured significant commitments, including a $25 billion pledge from the Inter-American Development Bank to support projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. The initiative will be operated from Brasília and Rome, with efforts coordinated by Brazil’s Cooperation Agency and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
In his remarks, President Lula showcased Brazil’s successful Zero Hunger and Bolsa Família programs as models for addressing global challenges. He stressed the importance of justice and equality in building a peaceful and prosperous world, inviting countries outside the G-20 to join the initiative.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a pivotal address during the summit, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to global partnerships and sustainable development. His participation underscores Nigeria’s growing influence on the international stage.
As the G-20 Summit continues, President Tinubu’s presence signals Nigeria’s readiness to contribute to a world where hunger and poverty are eradicated, and sustainable growth becomes a reality for all.
