Following the approval by the Federal Government, facilitated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), for a 300% tariff increment for Band A consumers, Senator Ndume released a statement on Saturday condemning the decision.

He highlighted the numerous challenges facing Nigerians, including the aftermath of the fuel subsidy removal, inflation, insecurity, and other financial burdens. Ndume emphasized the need for stable electricity supply, reduction in inflation, stabilization of the naira, and provision of basic amenities before implementing such tariff hikes.

Senator Ndume questioned the lack of consultation with the National Assembly, which represents the people, before making such a significant decision. He underscored the importance of considering the impact on citizens’ livelihoods and urged the government to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.

Expressing his disappointment with the timing of the tariff increment, Ndume called for a reconsideration of the decision and emphasized the need for government intervention to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the populace.
