Tinubu Challenges Nigerian Youths To Take Charge Of Nation-Building Through Civic Engagement

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership, Miss Rinsola Abiola, President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to empowering young people and building their capacities.

“We must equip our youth with the resources they need to become model citizens who can positively influence their communities and excel academically and professionally, all while adhering to strong values and personality traits,” Tinubu stated.

Miss Abiola, in her address, highlighted the importance of the initiative, which partners with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to promote civic education and youth leadership. She noted that the Umuahia event was the first of its kind in Southern Nigeria and reflects President Tinubu’s dedication to empowering the youth of the South East.

She urged the youth to take their role in democracy and nation-building seriously, stressing that leadership is crucial for the future of any country. Abiola also encouraged young people to engage in activities like voting, community development, and pursuing careers in politics and public service to shape the future they desire.

The Director-General of NOA, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by Mrs. Regina Iroha, urged the youth to develop the character needed to build prosperity through legitimate means, stressing that a nation’s success depends on its economic performance and the values of its citizens.

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, represented by Miss Theresa Nwosu, raised concerns about the alarming rise in cybercrime among youths and urged them to avoid it due to its harmful effects on society.

Mrs. Anu Maurice, Deputy State Coordinator of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), expressed concern over the widespread abuse of drugs among the youth, stating there is no valid excuse for engaging in substance abuse.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Goodluck Ubochi, stated that the Abia State Government prioritizes youth reorientation and development as part of its broader rebuilding agenda. He urged young people to engage in the various programs designed to encourage patriotism and participation in national development.

Students who attended the event, including Master Allwell Jamin, Miss Confidence Kelechukwu, and Miss Comforter Chikezie, expressed enthusiasm for the engagement and called for such programs to be held regularly.
