BREAKING: Tinubu Makes Special Appointment (PHOTO)

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Jim Obazee as a Special Investigator to conduct a probe into the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other related entities. The appointment, made in a letter dated 28th July, is in line with the administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, as stated in Section 15(5) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Effective immediately, Mr. Obazee will report directly to the President, and the specific terms of his engagement as a special investigator will be communicated to him later. Previously the CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), Mr. Obazee has been tasked by President Tinubu to strengthen and ensure probity in key Government Business Entities (GBEs) and to curb leakages in the CBN and related entities.

In addition to this, Mr. Obazee is required to provide a comprehensive report on public wealth held by corrupt individuals and establishments, whether in the private or public sector. To accomplish his mission, he will collaborate with a suitably experienced and capable team and work alongside relevant security and anti-corruption agencies.

The President has requested Mr. Obazee to provide weekly briefings on the progress made in the investigation. Notably, Mr. Tinubu reminded Mr. Obazee about his previous directive to suspend the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, on 9th June. Mr. Emefiele was arrested at his Lagos residence by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) following his suspension and later granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Despite being granted bail, Mr. Emefiele is still detained by the SSS, and the reasons for his continued detention have not been publicly disclosed.
