Ministerial Nominee Quizzed On How He Gained University Admission With Two Credits
During Senator Bello Muhammed’s Senate screening as a ministerial nominee, his credentials were closely examined on Monday. Questions were raised about his university admission, which was reportedly based on secondary school results containing no more than two credits.
Muhammed is among the 28 individuals appointed by President Bola Tinubu, who were scheduled to be scrutinized during a special plenary session in the Senate.
Senator Allwell Onyesoh of Rivers East posed the question to the nominee, expressing curiosity about how Muhammed was able to progress academically with his school leaving certificate that showed two credits out of five subjects.

In response, Muhammed explained that he had other secondary school results with passing grades, but he didn’t include them in his CV as they were not directly related to the qualifications required for the ministerial position.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio intervened, emphasizing the distinction between standing for an election and being nominated as a minister. He insisted that the Senate needed to know the nominees’ qualifications in totality, including other relevant certificates.
Despite the brief commotion in the chamber, Akpabio concluded Muhammed’s screening, reminding all nominees that transparency and openness were vital in their appointment as ministers. He stressed that Nigerians and the international community had the right to know about their ministers comprehensively. Akpabio allowed Muhammed more time to provide additional certificates for review, but not to reappear before the Senate.
