BREAKING: DSS Re-Arrests Emefiele After Tussle With Prison Officials (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) re-arrested the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, after a confrontation with officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

Emefiele’s re-arrest occurred following the bail granted to him by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos in the sum of N20 million. The judge also ordered that Emefiele be remanded at the correctional center until the bail conditions were met.

After the court ruling, DSS operatives positioned their Hilux Pick Up van, which was used to bring Emefiele to court, in a manner suggesting that they intended to take him back to their detention center. Emefiele’s lawyers, including Joseph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), raised concerns about the secret police’s planned re-arrest of their client.

During a clash between the DSS and prison officials, Emefiele’s lawyers reluctantly allowed the DSS to disobey the court order and take custody of their client to avoid further escalation.

At 03:03 pm, DSS operatives led Emefiele out of the courtroom and into their waiting vehicle.

President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele as the apex bank chief on June 9, 2023. A day after, the secret police confirmed that Emefiele was in their custody.
