Abure’s apprehension, alongside the state chairman of the party in Edo state, stemmed from allegations of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit dangerous harm, as outlined in a petition received by the Zone 5 Command.

Speaking on behalf of the police, Zone 5 spokesperson Tijani Momoh confirmed the arrest, shedding light on the accusations leveled against Abure and three other individuals.

The sudden turn of events prompted swift action from Labour Party leaders, who converged in Benin to address the situation, especially with the party’s primary election looming ahead of the September 21 gubernatorial polls in the state.

LP’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, led a delegation of party members and senators to the police facility in Benin, seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding Abure’s arrest.
