Edison’s decision to step down was conveyed through a letter dated December 29, 2023, and personally signed by him. The letter, directed to Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated:

“I hereby communicate my voluntary resignation as Speaker and member of the 10th River State House of Assembly, representing Ahoada-East Constituency II, effective from the date of this letter (29th, December 2023).

I extend my sincere gratitude to my colleagues and the constituents for the exceptional opportunity to serve and look forward to continuing my dedicated service to River State in the future.

Please accept the assurance of my highest esteem always.”
