Horrifying Scene In Ibadan: Six Confirmed Dead And Five Injured In Catastrophic Multi-Vehicle Pileup

According to Naija News, the accident’s impact resulted in six fatalities, with five additional injuries, including passengers in two tricycles. Among the injured was a young student whose mother tragically died in the crash.

Four of the injured victims were taken to the nearby Amuloko City Hospital, where two primary school children received outpatient treatment. Two others with more severe injuries were admitted for further medical attention, while the deceased were transported to an undisclosed hospital.

A representative from the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed to Punch that the accident occurred early on Monday due to the trailer’s brake failure as it was descending a slope.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer lost control, crashing into a tricycle. In an attempt to avoid the trailer, a lorry coming from behind veered off and struck another tricycle.

“When the trailer lost control, it crushed a tricycle known as Keke NAPEP. Another lorry carrying soft drinks was behind it and tried to avoid hitting the trailer but ended up hitting and crushing another Keke NAPEP,” one witness recounted. “We learned that six people died and five others were injured, all of whom have since been removed from the scene.”

The accident caused significant traffic delays, with many passengers choosing to walk to their destinations. In addition to the trailer and tricycles, two other vehicles were damaged in the collision.

Sympathizers at the scene argued that the tragedy might have been lessened if the trailer driver, who fled the site, had swerved into a ditch instead of remaining on the main road.

Dr. Raji Wale, the Managing Director of Amuloko City Hospital, confirmed that his facility treated four patients from the accident. “Four patients were admitted to our hospital. The accident occurred early today (Monday). Six victims arrived here with various injuries. Some were taken to other hospitals. We managed to treat those who came here. Two children were treated and discharged after stabilization. One of them was reportedly in the Keke NAPEP with his mother, who died. The other two with serious injuries have been admitted and are receiving care,” Wale explained.

Mary Alo, the State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), acknowledged the incident and stated that more details would be provided soon.
