The Challenger CL 601 aircraft, registered as N580KR, overshot the runway during its arrival from Abuja, carrying 10 persons onboard.
The immediate suspension of Mattini Airline Services Limited’s license was announced by Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA. The action is pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation into the incident, which will be conducted by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
Emphasizing its commitment to aviation safety and global best practices, the NCAA also revealed its intention to conduct a thorough safety and economic audit of all private jet operations in Nigeria. The economic inquiry will specifically focus on the terms and conditions of the Private Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) of Mattini Airline Services Limited.
Achimugu stated, “In the meantime, and in accordance with Sec 32 (4) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, the NCAA has also suspended the PNCF of Mattini Airline Services Limited with immediate effect.
The suspension will subsist until a determination is made that the conditions of the PNCF have been adhered to.”
This move by the NCAA aligns with recent warnings from the acting Director-General, Chris Najomo, who stated that private jet owners providing commercial services risk losing their licenses due to non-compliance.
Najomo emphasized that sting operations would be conducted to ensure operators unwilling to comply and obtain an Air Operator Certificate cease operations.
The suspension serves as a stark reminder of the aviation sector’s unwavering commitment to safety and regulatory standards, underscoring the importance of adherence to global best practices in private jet operations.
The outcome of the investigations will undoubtedly shape the regulatory landscape for private jet services in Nigeria
