NFF Approves Change Of Name For Nigeria’s Premier League (SEE NEW NAME)

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially endorsed a change in the name of the country’s premier football league.

The decision to rename the league was confirmed during the 79th NFF Annual General Assembly held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

As per the communiqué released after the assembly, the NFF has sanctioned the change from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPL).

This decision was one of several made during the congress.

Previously, the NFF had communicated to the NPL board that only the NFF Congress had the authority to alter the league’s name.

The NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, expressed gratitude to the congress for their confidence in him and the Executive Committee members in the recent elections.

He also commended the Federal Government of Nigeria, particularly President Bola Tinubu, for their substantial support and comprehension of the footballing demands. Additionally, he thanked President Tinubu for approving a special fund for the Super Falcons’ campaign in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023. Gusau offered prayers for increased support for the NFF, the National Teams, and Nigerian Football as a whole.

Amaju Pinnick, Nigeria’s FIFA council member and a Member of the CAF Executive Committee, urged all members of the NFF General Assembly to stand behind President Gusau in his efforts to advance Nigerian football. The Congress also pledged their full support to the Super Eagles in their pursuit of qualification for the FIFA World Cup USA/Mexico/Canada 2026.
