Tinubu’s Address Under Fire: Nations Reacts Fell Short Of Expectations ‘See Global Opinions’ Organizers of the nationwide protests against hardship, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, and human rights activist Femi Falana, SAN, have criticized President Bola Tinubu’s response to the protests, now in their fourth day, as inadequate.

The protesters had demanded that the President address the nation and respond to their 15-point list of demands to call off the protests.

Unimpressed by the President’s response, protest organizers continued their demonstrations at Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, as well as in Osun and Kano, among other states, arguing that the nationwide broadcast failed to address their concerns.

The police, however, prevented the protesters from marching beyond the designated area at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota.

Deji Adeyanju, one of the main organizers of the nationwide protest, described President Tinubu’s broadcast as a complete disaster.

Adeyanju stated: “President Tinubu failed to address the demands of the protesters, not even one, which is very disappointing and unfortunate. Those in the Villa seem unable to make the President see or hear what is happening in the country. The President did not order the arrest of those responsible for killing peaceful protesters in recent days, which is really sad.

“The President’s address to the nation was a complete disaster, a very disappointing broadcast indeed.

“We had many expectations from the broadcast. We hoped he would announce that political leaders at all levels were now willing to make sacrifices for the country, especially since he asked Nigerians to make sacrifices from day one of his administration, but they are failing and refusing to make sacrifices.

“We were expecting the President to address issues like fuel subsidy and electricity tariffs, among many other things, but none of these were dealt with.”

Ajala Adetunji, coordinator of the protest in Osun State, said his group, Coalition of Concerned Nigeria Citizens, would meet to discuss the way forward but emphasized that the ongoing protest would continue since the President did not address any of their concerns.
