The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the tragic incident in a telephone interview on Thursday, revealing the identities of the deceased as Bilikisu Eleojo, aged 20, and Ibrahim Haliru.

According to SP Aya, the fatal incident occurred as the generator set was positioned close to the victims’ window, causing them to inhale carbon monoxide as they slept, leading to their untimely demise before daybreak.

The lifeless bodies of the two students were discovered by neighbors early Thursday morning inside their room.

SP Aya recounted the details of the tragedy, stating, “When they slept inside their room, a generating set was switched on close to the window of their apartment. They all slept off and inhaled carbon monoxide as a result of the generating set that was switched on.”

While Bilikisu Eleojo and Ibrahim Haliru were found dead, their fellow student, Mercy Ojochegbe, who was still breathing, was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The incident was reported at the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force Lokoja, with investigations currently underway.

SP Aya urged residents to prioritize safety measures to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning incidents in their homes.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by improper use of generator sets and underscores the importance of vigilance and caution in their operation.
