Sowore Voices Concerns: Anticipates Similar Economic Policy From Peter Obi Amidst Criticism Of Fuel Subsidy Removal

Has expressed doubts about whether Peter Obi, his Labour Party counterpart, would have pursued a different economic policy if he had secured victory in the election.
As Nigerians grapple with the economic implications of the fuel subsidy removal, criticisms have mounted against President Tinubu. However, Sowore posits that Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, might not have taken an alternative economic path.
In a two-minute video shared on his Twitter page on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Sowore, known for his pro-democracy activism, conveyed his perspective on the matter. He argued that Peter Obi, if elected President, would likely have adopted a similar stance on fuel subsidy removal.
Sowore asserted, “Right now, the biggest people who are mobilizing for revolution are the Labour Party people because what Tinubu is doing now is what they would have done. Had Peter Obi become the President of Nigeria, he would have removed fuel subsidies.”
He went further to suggest that Tinubu’s actions align with what other political figures, like Atiku Abubakar, might have pursued if they were in power. Sowore claimed, “What Tinubu is doing now is what Atiku would have done if he had become the President. In fact, Atiku swore that if Nigerians would kill him, he would sell all the refineries to his friends, but we are different.”
Both Sowore and Peter Obi contested in the 2023 presidential elections but were defeated by Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Sowore’s video has sparked discussions about the potential policy directions different candidates might have taken if they had won the presidency.
