Sowore Defies Government Warnings: No Retreat For October 1 Nationwide Protest

Organizers of the October 1 nationwide protest against the worsening economic hardship in Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to move forward with the demonstration, despite opposition from the Federal Government and warnings from the Nigeria Police Force.

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and one of the key figures behind the protest, made this clear in a viral post on his X account on Monday. He boldly declared, “NO GOING BACK! #FearlessInOctober.”

In an interview shared on his social media handle, Sowore highlighted the deteriorating situation in the country since the last protest on August 1. He noted, “In just two months, petrol prices have skyrocketed by almost N300 per litre, the naira has further devalued, market prices have soared, floods are wreaking havoc on our cities, and bandits are wiping out entire communities.”

Sowore emphasized that the protest will remain peaceful, with the Abuja demonstration set to take place at Eagles Square. In Lagos, organizers announced plans to begin their march at 7:30 am, starting from Ikeja Under Bridge.
