NFF Shouldn’t Repeat Peseiro Mistakes, Victor Ezeji Warns In Search For New Coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still on the hunt for a new head coach for the Super Eagles following Finidi George’s exit. The 53-year-old coach departed after disappointing results in the World Cup qualifiers against Benin and South Africa.
As the NFF looks for a replacement, former Super Eagles forward Victor Ezeji has cautioned against repeating the errors made during the search for José Peseiro’s successor. Ezeji stressed the importance of a swift and effective appointment process to ensure proper planning for upcoming fixtures.
In an interview with Legit.ng, Ezeji criticized the NFF’s decision to part ways with Finidi George, suggesting that the Federation often undermines its own. He pointed out that while José Peseiro faced difficulties, he should have been allowed to complete the World Cup qualification process. Ezeji believes that if the team failed to qualify, Peseiro would have been held accountable.
Ezeji also expressed frustration with the current delay in appointing a new coach, noting that more than seven weeks have passed since Finidi’s departure. He warned that expecting a new coach to deliver immediate results under these circumstances is unrealistic, and he criticized the NFF’s handling of the situation.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to play their next matches in September against Benin Republic and Rwanda, according to Fotmob. The NFF had reportedly considered Hervé Renard for the role, but their negotiations may have encountered obstacles. Renard, who currently manages the French Women’s national team, was offered €2 million by the NFF, surpassing Egypt’s lower offer.
