Wike underscored his commitment during a security town hall meeting at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), where he directed Area Council Chairmen to conduct monthly security meetings to enhance the safety of their jurisdictions or face repercussions.

Addressing stakeholders, Wike emphasized that the days of leniency towards kidnappers are over. “Gone were the days when kidnappers would be granted bail. I will not allow it again. We will ensure that the kidnapper is punished. How will a kidnapper be granted bail?” declared the minister.

Wike’s directive extended to the chairmen of the six Area Councils, urging them to notify him promptly if they fail to organize the mandated monthly security meetings.

He warned that any chairman neglecting this responsibility poses a threat to the security of the council.

The minister pledged full government support, ensuring security agencies receive the necessary logistics and communication tools to carry out their duties effectively.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional leaders, council chairmen, and security agencies, emphasizing that information-sharing is crucial for proactive actions.

Wike also promised to address infrastructural needs, including the construction of a police station and access roads, as requested by the council chairman.

Chief of Karshi, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed, representing traditional leaders, called for unity between security leaders and community structures.

He cautioned against politicizing the security situation in the FCT, urging politicians to refrain from provocative statements. The chief stressed the significance of monthly peace and security meetings to exchange vital information among security officials, a sentiment echoed by Minister Wike.

As the FCT takes a firm stance against kidnapping, Wike’s unwavering commitment signals a proactive approach to safeguarding the region and discouraging criminal activities.
