Breaking: Wike Resolves 15-Year-Old Apo Mechanics Village-Crisis With Land-Allocation (Details)

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has successfully resolved the longstanding crisis at Apo mechanics village, a saga that has persisted for over 15 years. Chief Felix Obuah, the Coordinator of Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), mediated on behalf of the Minister to bring an end to the dispute.

In a landmark meeting involving 17 recognized unions and 16 other stakeholders, Obuah announced that Wike has approved a parcel of land in Wassa community, Abuja, for the relocation of all affected mechanics and traders.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Obuah expressed satisfaction with the resolution: “This issue of Apo Mechanics and traders has lasted for over 15 years. I have been in office for just three months, and we have successfully settled the matter. Today, they are happy, they are smiling, and we are smiling.”

He continued, “I have consolidated over 50 unions into four, and they are content. I have united everyone, and all the previous discord has dissipated.”

“We have made the decision to relocate all traders occupying road corridors, buffer zones, and right-of-ways to Wassa very soon, and they are all in agreement.”

Obuah outlined the practical steps: “The Minister has granted approval, and the task force for the relocation is being established. We have ample space available, and we will accommodate as many genuine individuals as possible. An enumeration team is already on-site to verify identities and prevent any form of duplication.”

He clarified, “Allocations will be made to individuals, not unions. However, we will collaborate closely with the unions to facilitate a smooth process.”

Obuah assured, “The relocation to Wassa is permanent, and we have been given a strict timeline of less than one month to execute the move.”
