Court Victory For Damagum: PDP Chairman Cleared Of Removal Suit Amidst Ongoing Crisis

The Katsina State High Court has rejected a lawsuit seeking the removal of Umar Iliya Damagum from his position as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The suit was brought by Ibrahim Musa, a PDP member, who challenged Damagum’s appointment on the grounds that the process of replacing former National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu was unconstitutional. Musa argued that Ayu’s successor should have been selected from the North-Central geopolitical zone, where Ayu originates.

However, Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari dismissed the lawsuit, stating that it pertains to the internal affairs of the party.

The judge ruled that the issue falls outside the court’s jurisdiction and upheld the preliminary objection raised by the first and second defendants, declaring the case “not justiciable” as it relates exclusively to party matters.

“The matter is not justiciable, as it is entirely an internal issue of the party, and the court has no jurisdiction,” Justice Bawa-Faskari stated.
