Identified as Chidebere Nwuzor, aged 38 and hailing from Amauzu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, he is allegedly involved in the November 2023 incident that resulted in the deaths of a Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector of Police.
The apprehended individual, reportedly operating as the driver during the heinous act, was captured after a fierce gunfight at their hideout in Amauze, located within the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the State.
According to Henry Okoye, the Command spokesperson, the arrest occurred on April 8 following an intense exchange of gunfire with police operatives. Nwuzor sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, leading to his surrender.
Okoye emphasized that Nwuzor had been actively sought for his involvement in various terrorist activities within the State, alongside his criminal associates.
Recovered from the suspect were one pump action gun with six rounds of live cartridges, one Barrera Pistol loaded with 2 rounds of live ammunition, and other incriminating items.
During interrogation, Nwuzor confessed to being a member of a deadly IPOB/ESN syndicate responsible for enforcing unlawfully imposed sit-at-home orders and unleashing mayhem on citizens in the State. He admitted to being recruited into the terrorist group by individuals named Ebube Virus and Ishaka, who were neutralized by operatives in December 2023. Nwuzor also acknowledged driving the vehicle used in the attack that led to the killing of the DPO Ahaizu Mbaise and Inspector of Police in November 2023.
The suspect is currently assisting the operatives in the investigation, providing valuable information that will aid in the arrest of other suspects at large.
CP Aboki Danjuma, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, praised the operatives for their gallantry and reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating violent crimes in the State.
This operational success underscores the Command’s determination to clamp down on criminally minded elements, ensuring the safety and security of the people of Imo State.
