To address this issue, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, embarked on a project to drill and donate boreholes to communities in northern Nigeria during his Ramadam tour

However, the project has sparked controversy and garnered criticism from various quarters. Some individuals and groups have expressed disappointment with the aesthetics and quality of the boreholes, labeling them as substandard. Nollywood actor and politician, Tonto Dikeh, voiced her dissatisfaction, stating that while Peter Obi remains her favorite politician, the borehole project fell short of expectations.

Similarly, the Arewa Renaissance Group condemned the project, describing it as an “eyesore” and an insult to the people of the region, particularly due to Peter Obi’s decision to inscribe his name on the boreholes.

In an exclusive interview, Segun Showunmi, a former Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, commended Peter Obi for the initiative but raised concerns about its execution. Showunmi emphasized that such projects require careful planning and design, suggesting that Peter Obi’s approach lacked intentionality.

Showunmi also criticized Peter Obi’s focus on individual projects rather than addressing broader issues within his party and national politics, cautioning that such tactics might not yield desired results in the long run.
