According to Agwu, the accident involved two vehicles—a truck and a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Kano State. The collision between the two vehicles resulted in a catastrophic outcome, claiming the lives of nineteen individuals. Among those involved were twenty-two males, with one person sustaining injuries while the rest tragically lost their lives.
Despite the valiant efforts of FRSC operatives, only two individuals were rescued unhurt from the scene of the accident. The bodies of the deceased victims have been transported to Okene General Hospital, while the injured individual is receiving medical attention.
Agwu highlighted the challenging circumstances faced by emergency rescue teams, who endured over three hours of intense inferno while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the wreckage. The collision sparked a fire inferno, making rescue efforts even more difficult and resulting in the tragic loss of nineteen lives.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for heightened vigilance while traveling on highways. The FRSC continues to emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such heartbreaking accidents and minimize the loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
