Multiple military sources confirmed the incident, expressing concerns over the continuous threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and ambushes in the region.
According to the sources, an unspecified number of soldiers lost their lives in the attack, emphasizing the significant dangers that IEDs and ambushes pose to military personnel fighting against Boko Haram and ISWAP. Tragically, civilians, including a pregnant woman traveling with a small child, were also killed when their vehicles triggered the planted IEDs.
“The road has been completely blocked due to this incident, and there are fears of more undiscovered explosive devices on the road,” one military source stated, highlighting the severity of the situation.
As the Nigerian military works to clear the road and address the aftermath of the attack, it serves as a stark reminder that Boko Haram and ISWAP remain active threats in the North East, with ongoing operations required to ensure the safety and security of the region’s residents.
